The UPEACE Africa Programme has designed and implemented a range of initiatives aimed at building Africa’s capacity for peace and development. These include:

  • Postgraduate Degrees – In collaboration with universities in Africa and beyond, UPEACE offers Master’s and Doctoral programmes focusing on areas such as Peace, Governance and Development, Conflict Resolution, and International Law.
  • Professional Development Courses – Short-term executive training programmes tailored for diplomats, government officials, security personnel, civil society leaders and organization professionals.
  • Research Grants and Fellowships – Supporting African scholars and practitioners in producing research that informs policy and practice in peacebuilding and governance.
  • Conferences and Workshops – Hosting high-level dialogues and forums that bring together experts, policymakers, and practitioners to address Africa’s evolving peace and security landscape.

Programme Structure and Timeline

MA Programme can be completed via two routes:

  1. Full time online -only (FO): This corresponds to completion of all required credits and a Dissertation within 18 months from the date of registration
  2. Full time face to face: Completion of all require credits and a Dissertation in 18 months.

Admission to the MA program will be open throughout the year, and enrolled students can begin in January or September

Admission Requirements

  1. Complete admission form
  2. Bachelor’s Degree University certificates and transcripts certified
  3. A 1000-word statement of purpose
  4. Proof of English Proficiency
  5. An updated Curriculum Vitae CV
  6. Two recommendation letters ideally sent electronically or if in hard copy must be signed, sealed and dated with valid contact information. Valid referees include former/current professors and employers
  7. Passport size photographs
  8. Copy of passport

FEE STRUCTURE

The fee for MA is structured as follows.

  1. Admission and registration fees-US$500
  2. Functional fees which include examination, research and thesis fees-US$500
  3. Tuition fees -US$4000
  4. Total fees-US$5000 which can be paid in instalments.

Programme Structure and Timeline

  1. Programme duration: 3years 1st year compulsory coursework organized in 2 sessions

 Admission Requirement

  • Primarily holders of a Master’s in any Social Science Field.

Programme Costs

  • 20.000 USD (3 years) (25% discount to UN staff and other international Organization)
  • Application and Registration Fees ($1500USD) in single payment (non-refundable).

The maximum number of candidates per cohort is 15

Degree Award

The degree is awarded by the United nations mandated University for Peace based in Costa Rica (www.upeace.org) and implemented by the Africa Regional Programme www.upeace-africa.org 

Certification Courses

Duration & Mode of Delivery

Duration: Ranges from two to four weeks, depending on the course.
Mode of Delivery: Online, Hybrid, or In-person (workshops, lectures, case studies, and simulations).

Cost

Course fees vary based on duration, format, and certification requirements. Discounts and scholarships may be available for select participants.
